Two syllables, starts with L

We thought Lyla, named after a woman who was like a grandmother to me, a reasonably original name.

It may be, but we’re only just realising how many mostly little people we know called something beginning with L of two syllables. M and W in Chiang Mai have Lily. G and J in Bangkok have Lina. A distant work colleague of mine is called Hla Hla; a former boss’s young daughter is Lulu. J and P in Chiang Mai welcomed Leila last week. I went to a hairdresser recently in Jakarta called Lely. We though C an C in Rome broke the mould, finally, with Thea being born earlier this month. Not quite: her middle name is Lily. Someone has to have a Lola sooner or later…

Still, Lyla clearly has the best ring to it, doesn’t it?!
