The 5am departure time was tough but the baggage we’d accumulated even tougher to imagine getting to Jakarta intact.

Luckily I’d upgraded to business using miles and they were the best miles ever spent in the history of Lyladom. No check-in waiting time (the queue for economy was… I hate to think how any nappies we would have been changing while standing there…) All 95 kg of luggage through without charge. No upgrade for Dad, alas. Still, so far, so good.

The seat next to Mum was empty… Lyla stayed in her bjorn for take-off and snoozed her way skyward — no need for a bottle laced with gin or dummy dipped in vodka. Meal served, Mum asked whether Dad in economy could join her. His seat number? I didn’t know… The attendant said she’d have to ask her boss. In a flash she was back. “Sure, but I’m afraid I don’t know what your husband looks like.”
Dad was back in the nick of time — breakfast time!

A little grizzling led to confinement in the bassinet.

A second feed from Mum fixed that — time for a sleep for Travelfish’s tiniest ambassador.

Finally, back at Soekarno-Hatta. Whisked through diplomatic channel with babe in arms.

After two weeks of being lavished with cuddles and lashed with love, Lyla May said goodbye to Nannie and Papa today.

Dad gave Lyla her first expressed bottle while Mum went to the THAI office to buy Lyla’s ticket to Jakarta. Can’t do it unless we have her visa to show them as it’s a one-way ticket. Those baby terrorists are really becoming dangerous…

Mum picked up a swim nappy while she was out. Despite it being about four sizes too big, Lyla went for her first ever dip. Not one to act out of character, she screamed. Maybe it just brought her birth flooding back…

It soothes her, even if it makes mum cry.

Lyla received her Australian passport today.

To celebrate we headed out to Oishi, an all-you-can-eat Japanese sushi/teppanyaki restaurant with the atmosphere of a bus station. The ambient noise here drowns out the cries of babies and screams of small children so we saw precisely what we’re in for over the next decade. At least the asparagus was good.

And just another outfit change… Yes, we really should just get onto flickr.
