Tonight we had dinner at the sumptuous El Hajd Moroccan restaurant with some friends in Jakarta, S and R who are leaving shortly for the sunny, sophisticated shores of Hong Kong, and J and A, old friends from Bangkok who are more than happy settled here in Jakarta.
Both couples have babies, and tellingly, A was a good hour late, while S swung in some two hours after the bell (admitedly he was late due to news rather than babies).
S and R regaled us with stories of birthdom, with the baby quite simply never wanting to come out — they tried everything, rasberry leaf tea, jogging, walking, standing, sitting, jumping up and down, spell-casters, herbal remebdies and so on and so forth. They got to the point where they started to think they should have been buying close for a young adult rather than a baby when all of a sudden the baby said…
“Righto – I’m ready now”
…and popped out.
So the lesson of the day was, don’t waste money on spell-casters and herbal remedies — when baby ready, baby come.
Though I’m told the rasberry leaf tea does help, and looking at the quantities of it S is quaffing down, someone has told her the same.
