This trip to Australia has been educational is no many ways — every set of friends with rugrats imparted some bit of knowledge on us that will be a great help in our own experiences with a little person.
But, as they say, often the best things need to be learned rather than told, and throughout this trip I’ve learned one thing over and over again…
Working at home and taking care of a baby at the same time are not going to be quite as straightforward as I first thought.
Before I got to Oz I figured I’d get up, play with the bub for a while then put him in a basket and get to work. Perhaps I’d reach over every now and then and tickle his belly, but most of the time he’d just lay on his back and make baby noises while I worked away — perfect!
Well it seems that scenario is the case only with toy babies and teddy-bears. These baby things are full time jobs I tell ya! Look away for a second and the baby has crawled out of the basket and is toying with your poison collection, playing frogger in the traffic or climbing in the stove — you only need to look away for a second and they’re out of sight — nightmare!
We spend some time shopping at a mage-baby-mall but I couldn’t find the solution to this situation — a baby leash — any suggestions?
Only one solution – eyes in the back of your head – ask any mother.
At last you have woken from your delusions!
Only suggestions, pray for nap times, don’t show your child you can play games on the computer (or they will never give up nagging to play games), and get a play pen: first for baby – until they can walk it across the room – and then for you – to keep baby away from the computer, and the stereo, and the iron, and the stairs, and the doors, I think you get the picture!
