The Simpsons really is a documentary
So you must all know the Simpsons episode where Homer is talking about how they came up with the kid’s names and Homer mentions how the most important criteria was making sure the name was one that could not be a source of ridicule. So with his son’s name (Bart) he says;
“Art, Bart, Cart, Dart, Eart — see Marge, nothing wrong with that name”.
So, as we’ve already well and truly settled on a girl’s name, we decided that just in case S’s new found pychic powers have had a bit of a meltdown, we better cover our bases and test some boy’s names.
So what’s the first thing we did?
We started running names through the Totally Extra-centrivical School-boy Taunt Extractor System (TESTES)to see what we came up with and I bet if Homer had had one of these, he’d have used it too.
If you’re not familiar with TESTES, here’s some examples of output:
Stuart: spewart, stuballs, stupid, and one other I’m not going to list
Louie: pooie — which then leads onto all sorts of second level terms related to poo
Jeremy: celery – connations with being a vegetable and so not very bright
Gaylord: no examples needed
On one hand TESTES can speed up name choosing dramatically, but in our case, it left us a little out of stock so to speak — perhaps that’s because I got called sooo many names when I was younger, that I know all the combinations.
I guess it’s back to the tv credits then…
