Home calling

Today was a bit of a mixed day, though at least S didn’t go to the office — instead she spent most of the day on the lounge opposite me, drifting through the day on a mix of bad tv, snacks and baby books.

Our biggest hurdle it seems is food. We had a bit of a spat in the afternoon over who makes what (me) and when it gets made (when S wants it) — tempers and frustrations rose to the surface surprisingly quickly. Our obsessing over food even showed itself when later making up and talking about how S went from a light simmer to a fast boil at a rate of knots.

After refusing point-blank to make Anzac biscuits, I repented by making the trek across to Kemchicks for a load of groceries, and, keeping in mind S’s crave for Anzac cookies — how much more Australian could it get than that? — I bought some fine examples of one of Australia’s other famed food exports — the humble meatpie.

While dinner was supposed to be beans and lentil something or other (I have an almost pathological dislike of lentils) as soon as S saw the pies, the whole focus of the meal changed.

“I want that!”

Some of the literature has mentioned that pregnancy will often bring on craves for meals eaten during childhood, so I guess one of my next trips will be to get some canned beetroot for the hamburger with the works.

Big day tomorrow — off to the doctors for another photo-shoot and check-up – can’t wait!

Mmmm, meat pies! Why don’t you get into the kitchen and whip up a batch, Stuart? I’m sure Sam would love them. Meanwhile, I’m here in Macau feasting on cheap Portuguese and Macanese delicacies – it’s tough. For the record, though, I’m enjoying the blog. Hope all continues according to plan. Cheers A
